Dumb Question about a Hand Clutch...

Ok yeah I realize that this may sound like a bonehead question but given the condition of the tractor I got to ask... Which direction do I move the hand clutch lever to enguage(Take off) and disenguage(Stop) the clutch on my DC-4? I think that this thing is so far out of adjustment that it's just nutty. The belt pully will spin constantly and right now I have the tractor torn down waiting for decent weather so that I can sand blast it. When I try to roll the tractor it feels like the clutch is enguaged reguardless of what position I have the hand lever in...

Thanks all!

Check the adjustment off the belt pulley brake. If too tight it will not allow clutch to disengage. I would Start with the internal clutch adjustment then do your belt pulley brake adjustment.

Thanks guys. I do have to drain and refill the rear end I think that there may be water freezing that I'm sure isn't helping the situation. I have the D series operators manual and it gives a pretty good description on how to adjust the clutch. I just needed to make sure which way was which moving the lever...

Yeah , SORELY out of Adjustment. Keep in mind however ,water and setting can cause the condition you describe .Some very early models were backwards as Compared to the later years built, That I Know .. Most models ,;push away from you engages Clutch , Yanking back disengages..Can be adjusted thru flywheel inspection cover.1st time learning how is tough, A book is good to have , Best is someone familar with the workings of the tractor Good Luck , Jim

Take a look at the brake on the belt pully. When the brake is on the clutch is disengaged.
