I have had this tractor a couple of years now, have not run it a lot but figure it needs the oil changed.

The previous owner put some fancy racing oil in it because he owns a race car shop and had it laying around

The tractor has good oil pressure, between 15 and 20 psi.

What would be a good oil to run in it considering it would not be used in the winter, only between spring and fall for brush hogging.

Detergent, non detergent? I like Valvoline oil, it is ok to use that?

Also, how many qts does it take to change the oil?

Thanks!

Thanks for the info guys, I found out that it takes 5 qts for the crankcase, anyone know approx how much will drain out of the clutch housing? A quart or 2 maybe?

I would like to have a rough idea of how much oil to get before I drain it out.

Thanks!

Don't forget to drain the oil from the clutch bell housing when you change the oil. It may or may not have a filter. I always have used just straight 30 weight detergent oil in the summer. I don't remember how many quarts it takes? You need to fill it until oil runs out the top petcock then recheck it after running it because some of it goes back to the clutch.

I run valvoline 30 or 40W in all but one tractor and in that one I run 50W or 60W valvoline racing oil. The one I run the heavy oil in is a 1935 JD-B that hasn't had any work done to it in at least 50 years so thats why I run that. I use Oreillys brand oil because its made by valvoline and is a little bit cheaper then the bottles with the name brand on them. I also only use detergent oils
