How do I get the brake linings off of the brake drum or whatever it is that they are on. They are riveted on, and they need to be replaced. Once I get the old linings off, however you do that, is there some special tool I need to rivet it back on, or can I just use a regular rivet gun? These seem like stupid questions, but I don't know how to do any of it. Thanks

You should have a brake disk with lining riveted onto it. You can use a drill bit to drill off the crimped side of the rivet. Caution must be used not to drill too far and into the metal disk that the lining is mounted to or else you will never get your rivets set correctly. After you remove your old lining, you will need to clean the disk for preparation for the new lining. This is held on with brass rivets not pop rivets, which take a special riveting dye to set properly. I have no idea where you can buy said tool, for I am lucky and my employer provides these tools. Check with your local heavy truck parts store. Most of them have a brake relining department. You can also take them to the tractor dealer and have them renewed.
