Ernie,

As Tim says it's a good chance compression is down. Also make sure it doesn't have a crankcase full of fuel from a leaking drive shaft seal in the injector pump.

Where are you located? I have several 1000's. There is a group on yahoo for case terratrac crawlers.

Tim; I'AM LOCATED IN NORTHERN PA. THE CRANKCASE FROM WHAT I COULD TELL IS NOT FULL OF FUEL.DON'T KNOW ABOUT COMPRESION;THE DOZER STARTS WELL, BUT HAS A SLIGHT MISS. NOT FIRING ON ALL FOUR CYLINDERS ALL THE TIME.

Ernie,

The cylinder with the miss ( the one with the cold exhaust port) would be the place to
start looking for low compression. Don't run it till it dies, parts are getting scarce for that engine.

I'm on the md pa line 3 miles west of the susquehanna river.

George;
Good day to you, Iam not a diesel mechanic but I could get by with some good advice.First I will ask if a fuel leak on one of the lines to the fuel nozles would cause a miss. There is fuel driping from one line. Second give me some info as to where I could purchase parts for this dozer. I will not run this untill it quiets. I would like to keep it in good working order. It is a old machine but its the best I have right now. I have several projects on the farm the I need to get done. Any info on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Ernie

Ernie,

The fuel leak will make it miss , but won't make the blowby.

I'll send you an email.

valve guides letting compression bypass into valve pan,causing the oil to be blown around inside the valvecover,and leaking out the blow-by tube...

just a guess,though...

Could be rings doing the same thing...
