What is the best way to clean the oil bath air cleaner, or is there a dry filter replacement...? I tried soaking in diesel, and used a whole can of foaming engine degreaser, but it is still as cruddy as ever. Thanks.

I would soak it in a parts washer with parts washer solution, not diesel. The solution is much more effective. Then wash that of with brake kleen. Good luck! Brian

I don't understand your difficulty. Remove the bottom cup, take out the screen, dump the oil, scrape out the crud w/ a putty knife, wipe clean w/a solvent soaked rag, refill and reassemble. You might also swab out the intake stack between the filter and the pre-cleaner w/ a solvent soaked rag on a broom handle when the cup is removed. Simple.

The cup is easy, I have it clean, along with the baffle and the screen that are in the cup. The canister with all the little wires in it is what I'm trying to clean. It's about 1' tall and the cup attaches to it. Manual says to soak in diesel, but that didn't seem to help. Previous owner neglected the air system. Those wires are all coated with oil soaked dirt. Just wondered if someone had a trick to getting it clean.

Well, it's all metal, so you can use as harsh a solvent as you like. Try a carburetor dip bucket. If that doesn't cut it, try methyl ethyl ketone. That stuff will dissolve rocks. Absolutely spotless isn't necessary, though. Oil bath air filters actually get a little bit more effective as they get dirty and the oil thickens up (up to the point that air stops going through them, that is).
