Good morning all. I am going to Elkhart, IN this weekend. Wondering if there are any tractor related sights I need to stop at along the way. Will be coming from Minneapolis. Going down I-94 towards I-90 (Towards Chicago) then to Elkhart. Figure I would ask anyone that live out there or been out there if there are any tractor related sights. Thanks!

Ken,

McGrew Tractor parts (formerly Dennis Polk"s) salvage yard is just a little over 30 minutes south of Elkhart, IN. It is located in New Paris, IN. I do not know if they are open on weekends though. Several hundred tractors being parted out.

Not really. You can tour the Oliver Mansion in South Bend. This also has the Studebaker museum attached. I think this month is muscle car/old Nascar feature. Not much tractor stuff there. You can also go down the street and look at the Oliver Power house. That"s about all thats left. The only other thing would be the LaPorte county Museum 219/324-6767 . There may be some Rumley (later Allis Chalmers)stuff there??. Another unofficial museum is Hein and Sons. They"re actually a tractor salvage yard. LOTs of stuff, only open Sunday/Monday. Wear boots if you go. Address is Roosevelt Road, Mishawaka, IN. Take US20 to US 131 south to Kelly road to Roosevelt rd. Polks is south and east of Elkhart but not much to see there. Meyers (salvage yard) is south of Elkhart on IN Rt 19. There"s also the "RV hall of fame" near Elkhart and the College football hall of fame in South Bend. Amish food and stuff in Middlebury, Shipshewana and Nappanee. Have fun and enjoy.
