The pto runs continously but when you have an implement hooked to it and you have the control lever in off it slows it down. for instance when i use a hay tedder with it and it gets in heavy hay the tedder slips. my question is is could it possibly be the cable out of adjustment or is it the clutch? If it is the clutch how do you go about fixing it

The usual scenerio is that someone warps the plates and then the drag overcomes the brake, the lever travel is very important as is flow divider pressure. THe lever should not stop the spool travel in either direction, the spool should bottom in the valve and retract completely out till it stops. the stop bolts on the lever should be removed and there should be a strong return spring to return the lever to off, there should be a "lever lock kit" if the pto lever has been updated. The flow divider should be adjusted to 210 lbs. Replace the brake shoe even if it looks in good condition if you don't want to take it back off to do it over as slipping glazes them and they will not work. Take my word for it , I have done dozens and dozens of them since they came out in 69

What does "control lever in off" mean? If the PTO clutch holds when it is engaged you simply have a brake problem. Can be worked on through the back end.

i was meaning when you pull the lever back in the stop position. When you push the lever forward the pto will work find it is just the stopping it

to me it sounds like you need a PTO brake and/or a PTO clutch. there is no adjustment to either of them. just have to replace them.

i was wrong about the PTO clutch part. i didn't read the original message carefully. i would imagine you would either have o split it or remove the operators platform to get at them.
