I was blowing coolant out the radiator I pulled the water manifold off and started the tractor and watched for bubbles the front head was at fault I pulled it and it was cracked I installed a new head and gasket I am still having trouble with that head gasket sealing or something else is causing that head to have bubbles in it any ideas. I have removed the new head and checked for cracks and flatness.

Most likeley the counterbore flange on the sleeve is cracked. Compression goes down the crack along the sleeve into the water chamber. The crack is in the flange of the sleeve between the fire ring of the head gasket and the highest part of the sleeve and is hard to see. The counterbore in block is uneven so the block needs to be reclaimed. Case provides shims of .005 and .010. You can find the shim part numbers in a 2590 or 2594 parts book on the page with sleeve and piston kits as they are also the same bore engines. Old case dealers had the Porta-Tool counterbore tool to repair the block in frame.

thanks turbo I guess this is a little to difficult for me to understand maybe a little over my head. you say "the counterbore in the block is uneven so the block needs to be reclaimed." is this something i can do? I have access to some spray magna flux crack detector do you think that this would be a good place to start. Is the liner cracked? What would the shims do form me? BTW this is a 1970 870 DIESEL

It is very possible that the liner is cracked. Magna Flux should show the crack. I refer to them as sleeves as in sleeve and piston. The area in the block that the sleeve contacts and stops the sleeve from going down is the counterbore surface that needs to be reclaimed. The contact area on the sleeve that the head gasket fire ring contacts must protrude .003 above the block to crush the gasket correctly. When the counterbore in the block becomes uneven, it does not support the sleeve correctly, and the sleeve flange cracks. Just replacing the sleeve is a short term fix.

Sounds like you may have more then one of the heads that is cracked. If one cracked what caused it may have also caused the others to have done so also
