I just finished rebuilding the power shuttle in my 'ol Case 580 B. I installed all new parts. Followed the book to the T and tried it out. I have 300 psi trans. pressure in nuetral. In fwd. or rev. the pressure drops to 160 psi but it doesn't even try to pull.....either direction. WTF ? Everthing looks good. There are no strange noises. It just won't go !
What did I miss ? HELP !!!!!

BKn, The book gives different spec's for oil pressure under different conditions, but at 2000rpm in neutral, oil temp @ 110 to 130F, the charge pump should be suppling a minimum of 9.5 GPM, & you should have 180 to 200 psi, In fwd or reverse the pressure should only drop 10 psi to 170 to 190 psi.
Did you have the shuttle control valve off & the pressure regulating valve apart. Located between the flow control spool & directional control spool in the valve block. This is whats sets the clutch oil pressure by shimming the spring for the specified pressure. The excess oil from the pressure regulator valve is used to charge the torque converter & for lube pressure.
It almost sounds like you are getting full charge pump pressure & the regulator is jammed. None of this would explain why you have such a dramatic drop in pressure when you put it in gear though.

Thanks Doug, I kept tinkering with it. Adjusting here and there and finally determined the dump valve wasn"t releasing fully. I re-adjusted it and it came to life. Works like new.

Thanks again !!!
