Just bought a D from my sister-in-law,her husband died about 19 years ago. She said and I believe I had heard my brother-in-law say it was a 1946 D. When we picked it up day before we found that the serial number plate is gone or was never there. I lived through the WW II era and know some tractors showed up minus serial numbers. My question is what can you use to determine exactly what year this tractor is and is there anyway to come close to finding serial number? Thanks for any advice.

Look on the flange where the engine bolts to the transmission case on the left side of the tractor. Unless the engine has been changed, the number should be stamped there. If it is a 1946 model the first two digits of the number will be 50.
