Tuesday the 2870 motor should arrive for the 4890. I was wondering if a number on the engine could tell me what year it was made. does anyone have the Numbers? Kind of excited to see how it will pull. I"ll update everyone.

I looked in my clean new 2870 service manual and I can find no info on engine date codes. Sorry.

Hope it goes well. I'll be watching eagerly for info because I just found a coolant leak from the head gasket on mine. It is leaking between the two heads, down the left hand side of the block, so I can't even be sure if it is the front or rear head.
I saw coolant on the bottom of the pan when I bought the tractor but I thought it was from the water pump because there was coolant coming out of the weep hole. Oh well.

That is a troublesome thing, why that (old) engine of yours keeps eating head gaskets. Hopefully your new motor pulls strong and lasts.

JP.

thanks for checking, From what some people told me is that u want an early (2870) motor or later(4894)motor. Claim the 4890"s were not as reliable? any truth?
