I want to put larger intake and exhaust valves in a DC. I will sleeve the guides and use 3/8" stemmed valves. Does anyone know what valves will work for this? Thanks

414/436IH intakes, machine .040 off the IH retainer to fit the DC springs and use IH keepers with a 3/8 guide pressed into the old one

take a look at IH 414 or 436 diesel intake valve 1.97 head by 5.79 oal .375 stem, federal no.v2089. I have these in my 51 dc and 37 cc, seems to work better in the open cc head.use all dc springs and keepers, DCDENNIS wausau wi.

My humble opinion is dropping the stem size will gain alot of air by it"s self. I use a off the shelf valve that is basicly 3/8s stem size. Thats a 1/16th smaller than stock. The head diameter is around a 1/16th bigger. This doesnt sound like much but with air a little goes along way and it is very cheap to do. You use the springs from the DC and everything else is used from the engine the valve is from. This works well in a 5505 head. Like mel said you have to watch the shrouding of the valves with the 5505. So only going with the 1/16th bigger head doesnt hurt you to bad. I have one already done that i could post a pic of if i knew how. If this interests you drop me a email. Thad

534 Ford valves (intake) are 2.02 I believe and are the right stem size and are just the right length. You must use the caps and retainers with Chevy springs also.I have a couple of these running and they do breathe very well considering the design of the intake runner. In my combinations I use the 5576 head as the valves are much more unshrouded, but you have to use another method to get the compression up, piston design, I have never lost the back main on a DC that I have built and believe most are destroyed by detonation caused by improperly designed combustion chambers, for what its worth, mEl

mEl, Do you use the same valve in the intake and the exhaust? Chevy springs are from a 454 I assume? I left my e-mail address too. Thanks, Bruce

I had my head ported last summer, and the guy who did it couldn't believe the intake and exhaust were the same size. He said he'd increase the intake and leave the exhaust alone. I havent' messed with it yet other than the port work - only had a short window to get it to him and get it back on. It ran a bit better when I got it back, so I'm happy for now.

I leave the EX standard, don"t know how much could be gained but the setup I use holds up to high RPM pulling so can"t be to bad, useing a homemade header intake and ex made from tube turns into a 6 inch collector then drop to a 5 in stack through the hood. we run consistently in 3rd gear at high rpm, track speeds in the mid teens on the sled monitors, however we are huge, 4.625 x 6.950 for 467 CID With 18.4 38"s in 3rd we can get up a head of steam. mEl
