The sooner you get rid of that pos 4890 engine the better off you will be! I think the 2870 engine may be a little lower on power but not 100% sure. I am doing an inframe on a 2870 right now, bottom end is done, just waiting to find a good set of head cores to have rebuilt, the origional heads were cracked to death.

Just curious, what happened to the original engine?

Everything is the same as far as I know. On the early 2870's the decal on the pulley will come off and you will not know where the timing marks are. Dealers were supposed to scribe a line across the pulley to mark TDC and pump timing, but I don't think very many did that. Check that before you install the engine.

I will definitely check for the timing. The engine that is in there now keeps leaking water out of the head gasket, gaskets been replaced multiple times, lasts a year then goes out.

Did you make sure the head or block is not warped? Sounds like one or both may be. I would check that.

heads were resurfaced but not the block. That front piston just always leaked water after awhile. temp always ran 200+ and after replacing the head, over time she really started losing power.
