I wouldn't worry about a little bit of pitting. The sleeves, of course, will need to be honed some to insure the new rings will seat properly. Do the sleeves appear worn? Is there much of the ridge at the very top of the sleeve? Do you think the "0"-ring coolant seals on the outside of the sleeves are good? Did the engine block have coolant in it? If so, was there any evidence of coolant in the oil? John Saeli may have new sleeves and rings ([email protected])? I'm not sure if he ships overseas, though?

as a practical matter , you probably will never know that the pitting is there if it is minor, if all new parts were readily available them by all means put them in, but if i were you, i'd follow the instructions given by Jerry, get rid of the top ridge, rering and put er together. I have 45 yrs at the same Case dealership as a mechanic and have seen it about all. I think you will be fine with a rering if the sleeve is not worn excessively.

mEL, I noticed you said you were a mechanic for 45 years at a Case dealership. That puts you starting out in 1962 or so. Just on a lark but since you have been working on these tractors and equipment for a long time you might be able to shed some light on my 630.

The rear side panels are missing so I don't have a serial number. By finding casting dates of Dec, 1959 on the rear wheels and Jan, 1960 on the egine block as well as it having the Easy Ride seat and the same hyd control levers that the 500b/600b do I have deduced it is a very early 1960 model. When during the year or previous year did Case roll out the new year models, especially on a series change? Also, is there an alternate location for a stamped serial number on the tractor like the letter series tractors did? Does the engine block serial number tie it to a tractor serial number if so does Case still have this information? I have sent mails to the contact at Case, Rick Tworek, that this forum gives occasionally but have gotten no answers, thought maybe a long time Case guy could help. I have my e-mail open so you can mail direct and not clog up this forum with very specialized dialog if you wish. I also have some engine rebuild questions concerning oil pressure a Case mechanic can help me with.

If the pitting is above the ring lands I would not worry - just rering it. Make sure that you take the ring land down so that the new rings do not hit it.

On Ebay there is a pair of sleeves for sale right now. Just make sure you are the same bore. Might get them reasonable as there is only 2.
