Should I Do This?

What do you guys think?: I have a opprotunity to aquire a Case SC (Eagle hitch, hand clutch, engine not stuck, good sheet metal, no major dents or rust-thrus, wheels and rims excellent, shedded, apparently a 100% tractor. etc. - those are the good points. The bad points are that all four tires are 100% shot.) The owner is asking $600.00 which includes a Allis Chalmers Mdl. B with an internally cracked block (which I don"t want). I would snap this up in a second except for the tires - I cant afford to spend nearly $1000.00 on tires just so I can move around the Case. (the A-C tires will hold air). Does anyone out there in the Pittsboro NC area want the A-C cheap? If so let me know immediatly because the whole deal will probably fall thru in a few days.

Well, I went and did it - I brought home the Case (I found a buyer for the A-C). Didn't have any trouble loading it, were able to air up all four tires, although one of the rears only held air long enough to get the tractor onto the trailer and one of the fronts blew out on the way home. The VIN is 5606176SC, I figure that makes it a 1952 model, right? What I need immediatly is a rear tire, 11 (11.2, 11.4, etc) X 38, and a couple of fronts, 5.50 X 15. If anyone around here (central NC) has any or all of these, please let me know. Condition doesn't matter as long they will hold air (and not blow out). Also, if anyone, anywhere has an oil cup for the air cleaner, let me know.

Well, I'm gonna do it. I think I've already found a buyer for the AC-B. Any suggestions as to how I'm gonna get this thing on a trailer (the Case that is, I'm not worried about the AC)? It's raining cats, dogs, and toad frogs today, will possibly continue tomorrow and possibly snow on Wed. Also having a bad back (surgery in near future) does not help things. I have no idea where I can get usable (rear) tires in time to get it moved.

Harbor Freight has some nice electric winches for not a whole lot I got a 3 ton for my pickup but haven't put it in yet. They have a portable one that would work great. Walt

It shouldn't be too hard to winch onto a trailer. Make sure when you try to pull it that the brakes aren't locked up. If they are, you can loosen the brake housing bolts to allow the brake discs to turn free.

CWH,
I hand winched a 7000lbs. LA with rotten, falling of the rim tires. Nearly killed me but I got it on the trailer.

Ditto. An SC is a piece of cake.

SDLars, maybe for you, but for me it's a different matter. About how much does a SC weight anyway? I have a 2-ton come-a-long, reckon that will do it?

CWH,
I used a 2 ton come along. You shouldn't have any problems. Take someone with you to help.

Guess it depends on your money situation but, I have spent more for tractors in worse condition. If you can afford it, I don't think that you should walk away from that deal.

Go for and don't look back you can sell parts from B to buy used tires for the Case and then you will have a nice tractor to restore.

If you're patient, you should be able to find some old used tires for it. With decent tires and an Eagle hitch, I would think the SC should be worth around $1,600.

For $600 you would be crazey to pass up this deal. You can part both tractors out and more than likely more than double your money.

Could you borrow a set of rear tires&rims off of someone's H, M, or DC, etc., just to get it moved? Assuming it's a narrow front, one narrow used car tire will get you rolling.

The B is a pretty little tractor; take it along and tuck it behind the house. I'm sure you can find someone interested in it. They're a neat little tractor.
