If you can, try to find one without powershift.

I have a 1974 870 with the manual 8 speed with about 3800 oringinal hours, mostly heavy tillage. I aways thought that my dad, who ordered the tractor new should have spent the extra $400 and got the power shift option. Powershift is ok if you baby it - change the oil and filters every year (which you should anyway) and don't shift up and down unnessaraly

33 years later, I'm real glad he didn't. It has been stated more than once on this forum that the 70 series 8 speed manual transmisson is just about bullitt proof.

I have never touched the back-end untill last month for a small repair for some worn likage.

Total cost: $355. So, I'm still ahead.

CASE didn't make a 770 LP gas tractor. i guess someone could have made one out of a gasoline tractor. the thirty series was the last LP gas tractors.

Phil;
Looks like the 770 will be more tractor. A little under 58 horsepower to the 170's 54. 770 will weigh aboue 2000 pounds more and has more cubic inches. Both have 8 speed manual transmissions and the 770 could be had with 12 speed Power Shift.
The 770 shared a lot of chassis and driveline parts with the bigger brother 870.It is a little underpowered for a tractor of this weight class, but is a great worker... Gene

I"d love to have one. Don"t know how it would compare to the AC 170. If you don"t buy it, let me know the location please.
