When new both gas & diesel had 40 psi hot at idle.
Not any difference when started cold in the summer cannot remember winter psi when cold.
Our late model dc's had 40 psi at idle when hot.

My '58 Case 800 diesel runs at about 50 cold and about 25 warm. It too had a new "in frame" overhaul plus a topend rebuild about 50 hours ago. I also installed a new Case oil pump trying to get the pressure up. The pump only improved the pressure by about 5 psi. I added two qts. of Lucas Heavy Duty Oil stabilizer which added another 5 psi when the engine is warm. (I believe the Oil Stabilizer is a good product to use in these older tractors)

Jim, I think I remember our 53 SC running about 30 when cold, 20 or so at hot idle and up to 30-40 at plow pulling RPM (it didn't have a lot of hours on it and Dad bought it new). Dad was a large engine mechanic by trade (Humble Oil and Refining Co.) and was meticulous about maintenance.

I don't think the older units had pressures as high as modern engines. Also what oil are you using, the older ones weren't made for multi viscosity oils? I am going to run straight 30wt in my 630 as long as I can get it. Straight weight oils are getting harder to find.

15 W 40 ROTELLA and a little Lucas to Slick her up GOood., My 4020 runs from 15 at idle to 28 full throttle under load , JD folks say that is plenty , and normal ,, Also tell me to expect the Jd normally to use a qt of oil per 10 hour hard work day ..... .These Low oil pressures Make Me Nervous ,,.Jim

We used to use Rotella almost exclusively in all our engines, Gas and Diesel with no problems (30wt) but now with the new multi vis oils out I am seeing posts here that say not to use it in the older engines but for the life of me I don't understand why. I may do just that in the 630, shouldn't be much different that running straight 30wt Castrol (all I could get last time, I usually run Texaco Havoline in everything). Also, Sam's sells it in gallon jugs at a good price too!! What you think about STP for added slick and viscosity enhancer? I have not had that much experience with Lucas. Although their gear lube has stopped the bearing housing from leaking (weeping) on the 630 brake section. I think I nicked an o-ring putting it back together.

30 PSI max on my 700 diesel. 15 PSI idling hot. The massive bearings in these engines don't require much oil pressure... Gene

50-60 PSI when warmed up.
Rebuilt Bottom end, Sleeves, Rings & Valve Job about 500 hours ago.

Also replaced clutch plates in the COM converter lock-up & master clutch at the same time. No, yes I said NO, gear grinding since. And the old plates didn't look too badly worn or warped at all. I was surprised.
