I'm building an SC engine and I'm trying to figure out what kind of compression it will have. Can anyone tell me where to find the volume of the 5617 and 5618 head for calculating compression ratios?

like the other fella said, ensure valves are closed and fill on cyl head with water from a vet shringe.take note of this amount.#a( 1ml=1cm cubed._) then check to see if the pison on tdc is right perfectly flush withthe block. if not add water till it is flush with top of head. (note this amount#b) this total amount of water is your compressed volume in cm cubed or ml. you can now move engine to bdc and do the same note this amount #c. the compression ratio is equal to (c+b)/ (a+b) I would spray wd40 on all parts before doing this. try to be as accurate as possible. a smaller shrige is more accurate.
good luck.

If you have the head off with the valves intact, can't you just turn it upside down and fill the combustion chamber with liquid and measure the volume of liquid it took to fill it?

About the only way to really figure CR is by CCing the cylinder/piston/gasket/head combination at TDC and BDC and doing the math. Anything else is just a guess.

Any variation in bore, stroke, piston crown shape, deck height, head gasket thickness and combustion chamber volume changes everything.

It can be done close without a head on, but for domed pistons the cylinder will be CC'd at a set amount BTDC then calculate the volume of the dome from the whole. Same kinda deal with pistons that do not come all the way to the deck. CC the head seperately then do lots of math.

I understand I will have to do some math... I know the stroke, deck height, and the piston diameter, but I don't know the CC of the head that's what I would like to know.
