I have had a 900lp about a year, I rebuilt the starter after i first got it and now again, i am told because of low voltage. Can i use 1 battery on this tractor like it has or does it need 2 like the old manual says? Would a sticky switch burn up the starter? It has a new battery, and cables, what else would damage the starter? Is this an issue with the 900 LP?

Thanks for the help

My problem on my 830 was bad field coils. It would turn the engine over slowly, even with two new batteries. The armature would get pitted and the guy rebuilding the starter wouldn't bother checking any farther.

I run just one 12 volt battery in my 900LP and have had no problems. Depending what was done on the rebuild it should have lasted longer. You might try a new reman, one from a 930 gaser should work.

Just using one battery will not damage a starter. I have a 900 Diesel and thats all I have used for twenty plus years and the original syarter is still on the tractor. And still works fine. It could be the selinoid that is acting up. Just an idea.

You may have answered your problem. Squirt wd40 on sticky switch or better yet replace switch. Sticky switch might not be releasing ocasionally after you start tractor causing starter to keep spinning.
