I have a old DB 990 Implematic. The Hydraulics drop imediately if the pump is stopped. It will not run a log splitter either. I am guessing I have a leak somewhere in the system. Anyone know how to check the depth control valve to rule it out. I am hoping it is not the pump its self. I have ruled out a leaky piston seal for the 3pth.

sounds like a stuck/dirty valve somewhere. If it'll lift al that weight, then the pump is not the culprit, but rather whatever holds pressure on the system after the pump is shut down. On my 880, there are some valves under plugs on top and behind the PTO assembly that on some tractors need cleaned out to work well.

thanks Dan I will try the filter. I should mention The 3pt Hitch Hydraulics work. I can lift the 6ft snow Blower and and a home made heavy log splitter. If I clutch in all the way the Hydraulic pump stops and the hitch imediately drops. Let the clutch out a little and the pump runs again and I have hydralics again. If I hook the remotes up to the splitter It does not have enough force to split logs. The cylinder on the splitter is only about a 2 1/2 inch Bore ( should be 4inch) but another tractor hooked to the splitter will split wood. I am going to hook up a pressure guage to see what pressure I get at the remotes.

My father has a 1968 DB990A Selectematic 12 speed. He suggested changing the hydraulic oil filter and cleaning the screen that is on the bottom. If this screen is dirty it will not allow the hydraulic oil to return freely.

He had to change the oil in the 990A this summer the 3 point hitch arms were slow to lift and were always dropping then rising on their own. When he changed the oil and the filter, he also cleaned the screen which was covered with slime, and had to use gas to clean it. The system is now working very well.

Hope this helps
