Don't do what I did over the weekend! I have a new 7-inch chrome headlamp reflector that I ruined. It had a few smudges on it, so I thought I would polish it a little with some automobile car wax/cleaner. It immediately ate the chrome coating off the reflector on contact. I was not a happy camper. Guess I have to order another one.

Believe it or not, I have had great success using the standard kitchen aluminum foil! Here is the procedure: Using a matching sturdy spherical object, (ie. ball- not a soft one), form-fit the foil with the shiny side against it. Don't be concerned with a few wrinkles that remain after the form-fit. Apply contact cement or weatherstrip adhesive to the reflector being repaired and mate it with the foil using the ball as backing. After a few minutes, remove from ball and carefully form-fit the aluminum smoothing out the wrinkles with your fingers using a clean soft cloth. Cut the center hole and outside diameter with a utility blade. Compare the light output against a good one with the same voltage/candle power and you won't see any difference with your eye!

I think that if the plating came right off with chrome polish it was probably silver plate just like the orginals.

I've had good success with "chrome" paint. I even used it on the park lamp of one of my old cars and with six volt lamps, you can't tell which one is painted and which one is chrome.

I was thinking about trying chrome tape. Is there any particular brand of chrome paint that you have used that is better than others? Re-chroming was way too expensive ($75 to $100 each)!

At that price this may be a viable parts supply project for CAMBOTED. HE can probably get you "better than China or India" parts with real chorme or nickle plated parts for way less money than just a rechrome job. As well any of his profits get plowed back into a good cause. Think I will post a message for him concerning this in case he doesn't this post and the response string, what do you think??

The 7-inch Chinese reflector was only $14.00. If the coating came off with automobile wax though, I wonder how long it would have lasted on the tractor?
