I need some cheap pulling horses. I'm thinking about driving 4 hrs to look at a 2870. Before I do I'd like to hear opinions from some of you guys that run them. Run well? Easy, cheap to fix? You know.

I'd be using it to tug plows and land cultivators around.

Thanks,
JP.

We bought our 2870 a couple of years ago, with 2650 hours. Pretty much in operational condition. No duals, decent (50%) tires, PTO, 3-Point. Paid $4500. Then spent $400 to truck it home and about $350 and 80 hours, fixin' minor stuff. Used dual wheels with decent tires cost me $1500.
A real HORSE for the price. She really out-pulls our 2470 alot. With the same chisel plow or 24' disks the MPH goes from 4 up to 6 or more. HANG-ON! Enough power that it actually can pull the 16' 3-point chisel plow too-fast. It starts "humping" in hard ground and the tractor can simply be throttled back to 1500 RPM and still pulls the load easily. Just finished fall plowing today. It started OK, without spray, at 15 degrees. Needed about 20 min warm-up before the temp gage even moved. The field was frozen about 2"deep with ice in some of the combine tire ruts and it easily had enough traction and power to walk right through the rough areas. We LOVE it.

Only drawback that I notice is that the big 676 burns more full per acre than the 504 in the 2470.
