So can anybody tell me the purpose of the round holes in the bottom of the exhaust manifold on cylinders 2 and 3 on my 1959 801B diesel? Should there be some type of plugs in them or are they for some sort of sending unit for a guage that I haven't figured out yet?
Thanks,
Larry

Yes, to let rain water out...
But a word of caution...
If the Ol' girl is kept outside for several years (especially if little used) without a working raincap or tin can over the exhaust pipe those holes may rust over and not let the water out and then it runs straight into the cylinder. This is one of the main causes of seized pistons on machines that aren't under-roof.

We've bought and saved a 700 and a 830 when "stuck" and both had the manifold drain holes plugged with rust.

Well that is very interesting. So it will be stored under roof and there is a functioning rain cap can I plug those holes? I really have an issue with the exhaust leak noise...

And thanks for the information guys.

I pluged the exhaust manifold holes on my 58 Case 800. I just cleaned the holes well, and then filled them with JB Weld. It has worked great for the past 3 years for me.

Jim,
I was thinking about JB Weld also. You didn't happen to notice if the holes were threaded did you?
Thanks,
Larry
