On my 430 Case when I start it the Gen lites stays on longer than normal? Even if I rev it up it may take a full minute or better for the lite to go out. Its a 12V Negative ground system. could the brushes in the generator be going bad? The other nite I was useing the tractor after dark I notice a little arcing in the generator, I figured it was the brushes running on the commutator of the armature. I would think this would be normal? What would be the proper way to polarize this generator? any generator repairmen out there. Thanks Dave F.

Make a jumper wire out of 12-14 GA solid or stranded insulated wire. With the battery hooked up and the tractor NOT running touch one end of the wire to the VR terminal labled BATT and then the other to the terminal labled ARM. Just touch it momentarily. You will get a big arc and then the generator is polarized. Some 430s are positive ground. I am told that if they were pre 1965 and made in the Rockford Illinois plant they are positive ground, my 630 is.
