BCDave, one other thing on professional looking installation. All the sign guys that do vinyl lettering will tell you this and I have done it myself. This sounds weird and you think it won't work, but it does. Dilute a bottle of Windex 2:1 with water. Clean the metal suface well then spray the 2:1 mixture on the are you want to put the vinyl decals. Peal off the back side backing paper and position the decal on the metal. The soap/water solution keeps the decal from sticking until you get it positioned where you want it. Smooth it down very lightly with a cloth working from the center out. This holds it in place. Then starting from the geometric center of the decal take a plastic Bondo spreader and firmly work the soap water solution and air bubbles from under the decal. Again, the soap/water solution has not allowed the decal to stick real tight, but when you work the solution and air bubbles out it does stick permanently. Peal off the front backing paper. I know this sounds nuts, but that's the way the professionals do it and get the results they do. Us novices just try to stick the decals on and wonder why the air bubbles won't work out. I learned this from my trade show crew when I was in charge of the company marketing department.

If you want a professional looking job, Vinal Cut hands down. There is no comparision in quality.

When I possed this same question a few months back I was told:
1. Mylar are the best and last longer.
2. Vinyl are easier for the novice to put on and get professional looking results.
