While shopping around for a place to rebuild my 311 6 volt generator, I found a guy who builds/sells 6 volt, positive ground alternators.

Does anyone have any experence with these? The price is right, and it seems to be a good idea.

There is no core charge, so I can keep the generator for the day the tractor becomes a project rather than a daily chore unit.

A fellow in Antique Power says Nu-Rex has a one wire 6-Volt positive ground alternator, you can reach them at www.nurex.com/show-kit.htm Hope this information might help. Roger
Haven't checked the cost.

Hi there, Yes, I had a local gen. shop build me one for my 1954 CASE SC tractor. I do not know if he made it positive ground or not, but it works great, keeps my 6 volt battery alive and starts right up in cold weather, uses the same amp. gauge. I like it, I had another one made for my 1954 CASE DC. The fellow uses Chev. 37 amp. alternators as the core. Hope this will be of help to you, Good Day, Caseman44 or Harold

Caseman44, our 53 SC was negative ground. I believe Gene Dotson indicated all of the positive ground machines were made in the Rockford, IL plant and those made in Racine were negative ground, I believe all SCs were made in Racine, WI.

I had a 6v neg ground on my DC. Also put one on a friends Farmall C. Both worked OK....I didn't realize there were positive ground Alternators (where is this guy??)

One point on alternators...the most commonly used are the one wire type with an internal regulator. These alternators have to reach a certain speed before they will self energize (start charging). Your have to rev the engine up a bit after starting to get them to start charging. afetere they have started charging they will continue to charge even at low idel speeds. My neghbors forgaot this and ran his battery down as the tractor started up and ran but not fast enough to energize the alternator.

You can get the older 10si Delcos reworked into 6-8-12-24 volt, either neg or pos. Gr. Any decent Alt. shop should be able to do it for you.
