800 motor?

I will try and make this short. I bought an 800 Case diesel with a bad heak gasket and a filthy motor. I pulled the heads and had them checked and valves ground. I bought a head set for a 267D but when I went to put it togather the head gasket was wrong. Brought the old gasket to the parts shop and he told me it was from a 251. He told me that was an option. I measured the bore, it was 4". 1. Was this an option or did someone swap down?
2. Can an a1111 block take a 4 and quarter over bore or is 4 and a eighth as far as I can go.
3. I need thoughts and advise.
Thanks Roger

John, you make a good point about the valve grind. I discussed this before the grind. One valve had a leak but took only minor work. The other 7 were barely touched. One question that I still have is why did it have a 400 gas part number on the gasket I removed? Thanks to all, Roger

Since the Engine PN is A1111, it is a 267 cu-in engine. However, someone may have put the incorrect sleeves in it years past. 4.00-inch sleeves will fit into an A1111 engine. All non-super 400 diesels engines were PN-6400.

Unless someone swapped engines, the bore should be 4 1/8". Whoever did your valve job did you no favors by grinding the valves. It will only make a hard starter out of it. If it is an 800 engine, a 4 1/4" kit will work. Good luck.

I had the same problem with mine that I bought from after market place. They told me to just go to Case and get the right ones and send the other ones back. I sent them a bill and they paid for them and the shipping. Head casting numbers always help when ordering.

There is a number stamped on the left side where the engine mounts to the COM. It matches the serial number tag. The block # is A1111 the head # is A11800 the measured bore is 4". There is no sign that the engine was a converted gasser. If this is an old 400 251 can I put 4 1/4 sleeves in it like you can the 267 or is 4 1/8 all the farther I can go? Roger

Roger;
The head casting is the proper one for a 8oo diesel. Never knew one to have a 4 inch bore. Are your measurements accurate? The A1111 block will accept the 4 1/4 sleeves. I believe Tisco still offers these sleeve sets. I have m&w's in my 700, but they are no longer produced. Maybe John Saeli or Don Livingston who both post on this site can supply these also... Gene
P.S. The 400 block will also accept these sleeves, but require reboring the block... G.D.

The 800 diesel was a 267 cu.in. with 4 1/8 bore. Overbore sets were available for 4 1/4 inch bore for 283 cu.in. I have had the same luck with the gasket sets and have always gone to Case for the proper head gasket. The sets sold on this site have the wrong head gaskets.
The original 400 diesel was 251 Cu In with a 4 inch bore and maybe this tractor has a 400 engine... gene

The 700/800/900 gas and diesls took the same head gasekets. I believe the exhaust ferrels and gaskets were a bit different. I can"t say if the diesels were 251"s or not or if like you said the made a diesel out of a gaser. Since the head bolt patterns are the same it"s possible. On the 30 series the gaskets are completely different. I have a set of new decompressor gaskets and maybe the exhaust/intakes too if you"re interested. Good luck.
