Case VAC 14 with no power, Help!

I just bought a 1953 Case VAC 14. She idles fine, smokes just a little, but otherwise starts easy and idles great. She can"t pull herself in 3rd gear. I was backing up a small incline and she about choked off until I pushed the clutch in. It"s like it wants to choke off whenever it has to pull to do something. I am going to try to adjust the rich/lean mix on the carb but does anyone know what else could be causing my problem? Thank you in advance I appreciate it.

I had a problem on a VAC once where it wouldn't run decent unless the choke was partway out.

Turned out the carb body was worn where the throttle butterfly shaft goes through, allowing it to suck air past the shaft.

I tested the governor and it seems to be working fine. I am going to take the carb off and rebuild it and clean the tank and sediment bowl and see if that fixes my problem. Thanks for the help.

I would suggest you buy a plastic in-line fuel filter at the auto parts store so that you know for sure that you aren't getting any rust/dirt in the carb. Open the drain on the carb and see if you are getting a good stream of gasoline. You could still have dirt in the tank that moves over the fuel tank outlet when the tractor is traveling. Did you clean the tank outlet where the sediment bowl screws on? Without moving, hold the brakes and slowly let out the clutch with the tractor in gear and see if it still chokes off. If it does, it could be that the governor is not pulling the throttle open.

BI,
I run into that problem once in a while with our 511B and it's usually a restriction in the gas flow. I have to remove the sediment bowl, drain the tank and blow out the gas line. Not sure if that'll help ya but the first time I went through evenything and forgot all about checking the basics.
