Case 530CK clutch won't disengage

I"m troubleshooting a Case 530CK backhoe (has the case-o-matic transmission) that seems to have the opposite problem to what all of the other broken 530CKs that I"ve heard about have - the clutch won"t disengage! I don"t believe that the converter lockup is engaged, but I"m not sure of that. Is there anything else I should check before I start taking things apart?

Do you know if the pressure is dropping on the gage when the clutch pedal is depressed? What is the Torque converter pressure? Both are important as the TC pressure acts to return the clutch piston so the plates seperate to disengage the main clutch. The direct drive clutch should not keep it from shifting. Some drag on the clutch should be expected, they will never shift as clean as a standard drive tractor but learning to use the TC drive you will find out how to keep grinding to a minimum. On some early units I have had the rear clutch hub bearing fail and the cage pieces go in and jam the clutch piston so it could not release, just thought I'd pass that along. Keep us posted there is much knowledge among our collective group eager to help.

Good question - there is apparently no oil flow in the transmission hydraulic system! I got the gauge hooked up and fired the machine up but the gauge didn"t move, so I loosened then eventually removed the gauge line from the tee fitting next to the clutch valve and nothing came out. There is plenty of oil in the system... maybe it"s a plugged filter, I thought, so I replaced the filter (the one in front of the radiator) and still no flow. I could see dirt in the system causing reduced flow, but no flow at all? Is there anything else I should check before taking the pump out (maybe the regulator on the other side of the plate that holds the pump)?

This is a great forum, thanks for your help!

Loosen the big line that comes out of the cap in front of the com valve, start it up, if still no flow out that port the pump is not working, possibly a broken key or something major, in that case you will have to pull the top cover and check for damage I have seen coolers plugged so as to make the systems inoperable so check there at the pump output port for flow to eliminate a plugged cooler as the problem. I presume that the unit grinds when trying to get into gear but don"t drive?

I loostened that oil line and started it up - nothing. I will not be able to work on it for a while due to an upcoming business trip, but I will pull the top cover when I return. Yes, the unit does grind when I try to put it in gear. I haven"t forced it for fear of breaking anything or having it take off with no way to clutch!
