Queation, My brother is trying to replace the head gasket on a 580 ck back hoe (older model) when he lowers the head on it is skinning the water pump housing gasket, are there any short cuts? Thanks,

I have changed hundreds of these over the years, put the head on without the gasket in place,Torque it down then carefully drive a screwdriver in above the split right at the tappet cover gasket flange area wedging the wp housing ahead far enough to slip the gasket in from the side. mEl
