900B brake locking up

Recently bought a 900B diesel, and the right brake is giving me fits. I almost wrecked it while backing it off the trailer- the brake locked up on it's own, and slid the front left wheel off the trailer. I thought it would loosen up with use. I've plowed with the tractor, and the brakes seemed to work OK. Last night I was backing it down the approach to my shed, and it locked up again (twice). It only seems to happen in reverse and downhill. I didn't even touch the pedal. Any suggestions? Thanks- Kevin

Wow! Just got on caseih.com. I had no idea that all the parts diagrams were there. That will save me a lot of time. Caseman- thanks for the tip! I also looked up my IH plows. All were there, but no wear parts were listed, like shares, landslides, etc. Why would that be? Thanks again, guys. Kevin

To get to the plow shares and land slide you need to find mold board listing, super chief ect. Look again when you put in plow model it may give you an option for moldboards. Been awhile since I've used the IH support pro as we are no longer Case where I work. The boss and I like to use manualls over computers.

Thanks for the help. I don't mind tearing into it, but I'm STILL waiting on a manual I ordered, so I don't know how. I see the brake covers, but are the brakes wet or dry? Can I just unbolt the covers to get to everything? Thanks again- Kevin

Brakes are dry, for a break down go to caseih.com and it will give you a picture of the brakes. When searching just type in 900, not 900B.

I have a 730 that does the same thing. I have not had time to get into it, but when I do I expect to find a broken return spring. DK

Really only one cure for that and that is to tear it down to see what it wrong you can't fix it or trouble shoot it without looking inside.
I know you didn't want to hear that but sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and dive in.

It soujnds like a broken spring. While you have it apart ckeck the seals if they are leaking. This would be a good time to fix them too. The brake drum is easy to take off to check things.
