I have read that those are an extremely detuned tank motor. They are supposed to be so bulletproof at the hp rating that the tractor is running they should last for many years. I think they are rated at over 600hp in the tank and under 300hp in the Case. I have run one many hours and really liked it. I would be willing to bet you can find something if you look for another application. Maybe some type of surplus center that has some of those tanks. Kind of like white tractors using those Hercules engines that came in the 6x6 army trucks. Could just need the heads milled. Good luck.

Dad bought a 4890 last fall and it has a small leak by the head to, told him not to dump that stuff in but he is old and stubborn, dumped it in and it still leaks a bit while grinding hay, which is all we use it for. Did some searching in the arcives on this site and found one post that said you need to get head gaskets from Scania company not caseih dealers. The Scania gaskets are thicker or something and solved the problems the guy was having like yours , just a thought, there are not a lot of arcives on the 2890 or 4890, but worth reading, good luck.

If you have a water filter on you cant add something like bars leak but if only leaking at front of engine an you are not getting water in cylinder or oil pan i will stick my neck out an say add some bars leak.Ihave used it since days of sc. iHAVE BEEN TAUGHT LONG TIME AGO NOT TO PUT ANYTHING ON GASKETS BUT THINK I WOULD TODAY COAT BOTH SIDES OF NEW GASKET WITH ALUMINUM PAINT AN LET GET STICKY THAN PUT ON. Have red on other forum that is excepted way at least one well known race engine builder does it.

I ran into this coolant leakage problem after installing a new short block. The heads measured as flat as they could possibly be.

We found a machine shop that could make a bit and re-cut the cylinder head fire ring grooves exactly as specified in the Case tech manual. {the groove has a weird shape} This fixed the problem, just don't ask me to explain why.

Have you had the head checked to see if it's warped?
