Do you have the high pressure hydraulics? if so, you cannot dis engage the belt pulley, I don't believe(I've been wrong before, just ask my wife). All that set screw does is disengage the pump and that is when its turned in.

well i took it for a two mi ride. came back and tried the pulley set screw all the way out and it wouldn't budge, etheir way. just read in my 411b manual that the 411,311 b's should be using 90. octane. what do you's think? my steering has the same looking set screw in the side for the steering. was a great day! hope to get a few things else done and get the body painted before it gets colder and do the tin later (maybe not). well see ya laters gary

thanx guys for the info. i'm going out there now to see if i can adjust that pulley. it's a late 1948. i've been driving by this and the others parked by it for years. never thoght of stopping until the guy had a hopmobile sitting in the drive for sale and started talking. i ended up looking at the tractors instead. some sc's and a couple others there he uses for parts if needed. they all have great sheetmetal, but stuck motor. well it's getting late and its starting to warm up now, here in the thumb of MI. FROSTY this morning. thanx again to everyone. think it's to early to start it up this morning? kinda early for some of these people here in this semi-private sub. i just got to here it start and run some more. gary

A great place to get the manual all in one PDF is at the first link. There is also a parts book and even a few Case Brochures in the list on the second link. Very interesting site. I just bought a VAC last week. Great little tractor. Mine has the hydraulic pump on the bult pulley drive. I have not found the way to stop the pulley on that particular setup. If you download the manual, it will show you exactly how to disengage the setup with the pulley w/o the hydraulic pump. Have fun with your new tractor.

Loosen the set screw and pull out of the pulley. It pulls one gear away from another one until the teeth no longer mesh.

Gary Do a search on Yahoo for Case VA Series Manuals
There is a site called ImageEvent that has a complete Service manual listed you can access for free.
Great source of infomation for VA's
I'm in the process of fixing up a VAC right now myself, Getting all the mechanicals fixed up then going to look at the tin and paint.
I have never owned a Case Tractor before and I do have to agree with you they are a nice little tractor.
Getting mine ready to plow the driveway of snow this winter.
Good luck and have fun.

The answer to both questions is, Yes. If you have a service manual on the way it will have the procedures for both. There is a set screw on top of the pulley case to engage/disengage the pulley. The steering adjustment will vary with the type steering on you tractor.
