Purchased VAC with 12 volt system that is missing generator and mounting hardware. Is there a particular alternator that is best for this application? Should I look for original mounting hardware or will it not be helpful?

I USED OLD STYLE GM ALT. W/ REGULATOR.
YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE SWITCH.
LAST ALTERNATOR I BOUGHT FOR LESS THAN 30$ AND SWITCH WAS AROUND 5$

Hi Newbie
Do a search for VAC 12 conversion in the Case Discussion Forum and you will find a lot of info there on converting over to 12 volt.
Good Luck

I purchased a single wire 12 volt alternator from napa and had to make a bracket to mount it and it works great.

Thanks. I had been told that by another mechanic friend as well. I just wanted to be sure that I was not reinventing the wheel by taking his approach. Ussually I get finished with a Macgyever project and the first real mechanic that walks by says that there was a $10 kit for that application....after I spent 2 days on the project. I will also be reviewing the info online now that I have a moment. Thanks again!
