Which of you is an expert on Case tractors? My tractor's serial number plate is removed; you can see where it used to be. I think the tractor is from the 40s. What information do I need before I can sell it? People want to know certain things, right?

My husband looked on all the places that you guys suggested and he did not, yet, find a serial number. In one place, on the "dash" or whatever you call it, there's a rectangular spot where a plate has been removed.

Sincerely,
Barbara

I am adding a photo of my Case Tractor so that you can tell me what you know about it. What is the year? And, also, what do people want to know about it. Here is what my husband says, "The exhaust manifold is rusted through.

When I parked it a couple years ago, it seemed to be mis-firing on one of the pistons.

One of the front wheels is off. It needs a new rim.

I had previously pulled and plowed and used it for lots of chores around the farm. I even dragged some logs out of the woods with it. It had plenty of power to pull logs uphill. Mostly I used it for bush-hogging.

It has a Eagle Hitch 3 point, but one of the arms is broken and needs to be welded.

The tires are really good. The big back tires have like-new tread.

It shifts good.

The breaks are good.

I bought it from a guy who didn't know anything about tractors. He had bought it for Y2K. I don't know where it came from before that.

I would sell it for $1000.

How do I put a photo on here?

And the formula Tom gave only works for the flambeau tractors with 7 digits.

If you are a regular user of this forum, you would have seen many posts telling you where to look for the serial number. However, in case you are not, look on the flange on the right side of the engine block where it bolts to the transmission case. The number should be stamped there (you may have to scrape paint away to read it). The subtract 4 from the first 2 digits and you will have the year. You can also look on the left side of the casting where the drawbar bolts to the transmission case and find a casting date there.

Tom;

Case only stamped the numbers on the clutch housing flange on the Racine tractors. Tractors built in Rock Island did not stamp the numbers there. All VA series and number series to 630 will not have it stamped here. I believe the C, D, S and L series were stamped there.
When I restored my VAIW, I only found dates on 2 parts, the water pump and the rod bearings. Continental dated the water pumps, but Case discontinued that when they started building them in 1948. This only applies to the VA series... Gene

Thanks, Gene. I learned something today. I didn't know that about the VA series.

OK. I will tell my husband to look in all of those places. And I will let you all know. If that doesn't work, I'll send you a photo. - Barbara
