Transmission stuck

I just got this Case SC, 1953 model. Has loader on it and I was going from 1st to Reverse several times in an attempt to move a very small amount of soil. The transmission got stuck so to speak in 1st gear and I can move the shifter lever to one other position. That position seems to net a total lock up. Disapointing, as I used the tractor a total of 10 minutes after just purchasing it for the going rate. The tractor appears not to be worn out or abused. Hoping someone has some ides where to start. Shifting fork?

Larry, I think I saw one listed on ebay a couple of days ago. You might try classified adds on this site. Good Luck

Larry; If it is a worn shifter a good machine shop could build up and machine the end or you could try a wrecking yard.

I would suspect that the end of the shifter is worn enough to have "jumped" out of the 1 fork. When you engage the other gear, you are actually in two gears at once, causing your lock-up. Remove the gear shift and see if you can get it into neutral using a pry bar.

Hi Bradley,
You are a genius. As you may suspect, looking into a 1 3/4" black hole, I had no clue what to look for. So after about 8 hours of careful disassembly/assembly, I was able to use your tip and get it back in neutral. The shift lever ball spring was broken and the shift lever end itself badly worn. Looks repairable. If anyone has a spring, boot, and or new shift lever, I'm interested.
Thanks for your courtesy. Pat Kane in Mich also called and knew what the probelm was. Thanks to you both. Larry b.

Hi Bradley,
Thanks so much for the help. I'll try as you suggest. Assuming you are correct, may need a new shifiter? Where would I find one those and or parts to fix it?
Thanks, larry b. 208 691 3959
