I bought a "DC" 1949 last weekend,it has a broken crankshaft.I really havent heard of the "DC"s doing that, this guy told me it had been overhauled too, which leads me to beleive maybe something happened then.

the old DC's used an unfinshed main bearing that had to be line bored when replaced I have seen the crank break when someone tried to adjust the clearence by adding or removing shims on new bearings. farm-al

Check the rear main cap area on the block for cracks. They have been known to give up also.

they broke several, I know of some personally, especially if equipped with big pistons and lugged on low grade fuel, loose mains also contributed to the problem

Thanks for the info,I wonder myself if something wasnt quite right after the overhaul.

By the way,do you still have your "A6"? I did get one as I never heard back from you.If you still have it let me know,I had a friend going that way, wouldnt hurt you have another!

Wanted to thank all of you for your information.I hadnt realized that the "DC" had those type of issues.Kinda like the first "1175""s.I think I have located another "DC" with a good motor. Will keep you updated.
