Just bought my first Case tractor, LA model. Can someone tell me of a good source for parts such as water pump, either new or rebuilt. I collect Massey"s and as such know more about parts suppliers for them versus Case. Thanks for any help.
Ben

Walt, Thanks for the info. I'll try that trick. I'll let you know how it turns out. First step is to try tightening the fan belt it appears to be somewhat loose, and go from there.

Ben make sure that the fan is facing in the correct position the last owner of mine thought it was pusher fan and turn it around. Doesn't work very good that way.
Walt My email is open if you need any help.

Walt,
You just gave me another piece of the puzzle. While running the tractor I noticed a large amount of air blowing back at me. Felt like standing in front of a fan, which I thought was strange. That could very well be the problem. I"ll check that as well and let you know.
Regards, Ben

You can replacement cores for about $400 if needed. I was lucky my parts tractor had a good radiator on it.

A buddy of mine just picked up a '49 LA for $750 and it runs !third party image

Could stand the correct mag for it and maybe some hydraulics.

Ben,
Walt's probably right. About the only thing goes wrong with one of those water pumps is leaking. My 49 overheated and I finally had the radiator rotted out. That worked. The couple of seeps that developed in the radiator because of the cleaning were easily stopped with a bottle of Barr's stop leak. But in the meantime, check to see if you have rust chunks sitting on top of the core. I could reach all the way in & pick them off. 12 year olds work better for that though. Also, the cores are pretty big, so you can run a good size wire(12ga electrical w/sheathing) down some of them and clean them out. That all gained me a couple years till I could tear it apart.
You may also have a thermostat on top of the elbow (under the tank) that may not be working very well.
Good luck with the new toy,
Steve

Thanks to all for the replies. Walt, the tractor is overheating. I have checked the coolant and it is topped off. I am going to tighten the fan belt and give it some grease. I am just trying to get my ducks in a row if it needs a rebuilt pump. I have ordered all the manuals to trouble shoot, however between work and trying to cut brush I haven't had a chance to really get to the bottom of it. As I said I'm not familiar with Case or what makes them tick. Also trying to get a feel for parts availability. Regards, Ben

So what's wrong with the water pump these things are built like a tank and usually only need to have grease put in the cap and screwed down to stop any leaks. I have a spare one in good condition if you need it as far as a new or rebuilt forget that.

Walt,
My big 600 leaks a bit on its water pump.
Do you know if they are similar in design or
do I have a different breed of cat. I think mine has a grease zerk instead of a cup.
Just wondering how to fix the problem.

I think that they are somewhat similar use a good grease made for water pumps. I got mine from the Lubriplate web site. Walt
