Looked at A 400 Diesel, wide front and eagle hitch. Orginal condition, sheet metal complete except missing emblem in grill and door over rad. Tires are all poor, Hr meter says around 5000 if it works. The guy wasn't there so didn't get to hear it run, he's asking 2650 for it and I think thats a little high so I thought I'd try some feed back going to go back and look again like to hear it run. sign says it's a 1956 Thanks

My dad has a 400 diesel he's looking to sell, looking for $1200 for it. It does need an injector pump (or rebuild the current one)though.

I just purchased a 57 Case 400 Super diesel for $2200. It was complete and the Diesel is running great (w/some minor smoke when cold) and it has good sheet metal . Therefore, I believe you may try to negotiate him down another $300/400. It may be worth you effort...

I bought a 1955 Gas 400 with loader for 1,200
Tires hold air but are not very good. Sheet metal poor. Between me and my uncles we have around a dozen 400's. Great tractors compared to what other brands offered at that time.(still great tractors) My other 400 is also a gas 1956 model. I think my dad paid 900 for it 18 years ago. Looks mean with schwartz Wide front, nice paint job and 18.4 38's on the rear.

I doesn't sound like a bad price to me, if it doesn't need more work than you listed. Location has a lot to do with price. Like TimBin, I am also in WV.

430 that was given to the neighbor in reply to Ralf from MI, 08-07-2007 08:15:20
The neighbor had a gas 430 loader tractor given to him. It needed new float/carburator overhaul; tires are will be needed in the near future; gear driven power steering pump shot and was replaced with Ford Pickup belt drive power steering pump with modifications; starter rebuilt; hooked up numerous dangling wires and gave it a good bath and filled all compenents with proper oil. Don't know much about it after that as some "Good Buddy" or relative is using it constantly. I had helped with some of the restoration work and wanted to use it but it's always "busy" somewhere. The value is anywhere from $0-$1500, I'd say. Old tractors can be a real money pit so just understand there can be parts and some quality wrench time spent there. bjr

Prices vary from place to place, but that sounds high to me for a tractor that needs $1000 in tires. They are great tractors, but they don't bring nearyly as much money as they are worth.....

Just my opinion, anyway.

That doesn't sound too out of line if it operates as it should...I hear a lot of good things about those tractors....
