990 3-point problems

You guys were all over our fuel problem, so have a crack at this one. The 3-point on our case 990 (mid-late 60s?) has a hard time moving sometimes. It will always go down, but when you pull the lever back it takes some time to start moving up. Revving the motor sometimes seems to help, sometimes doesnt. When it does go, it seems to not have much lifting power (a real pain in the neck for logging :) ). Weve changed the hyd fluid filter inside a couple times and it kinda seems to help for a bit. The filter is usually half plugged with a wierd gray chopped-up-wool-blanket lookin stuff (dont know what that is or where its comin from). Loader works good up front all the time, so I wouldnt think the filter is completely at fault. Also, when its real cold out (Im in Nova Scotia, Canada) you may as well forget it for an hour or so till it all warms up some. We'd park it in the woods overnight so the logging winch is up on a big log or something and work with it up for a while in the morning :)

Anyone have any ideas on the cause or some way to get around it? We were thinking maybe we could put another cylinder on the outside somehow and run it with the remotes on back... Any thoughts are appreciated.

Sounds like you have an old filter that disintegrated clogging up th pump intake screen. I had one in a 430 once.

no clue about gray stuff unless its an additive thats congealing with water [gray/whitish color usually means moisture contamination]

We have the same type of problem and we're looking for answers (help) too. We've cleaned the valves in the "valve chest" on the right hand side of the tractor, checked the fluid levels, etc. We're wondering if the problem is with the pump, even though it's working..... . maybe not enough to do the job.
