I bought a 400 a couple years ago and am now getting around to working on it. The gas engine had a bad crank so I took it out and installed a used diesel in it. I was not happy with it so I got another used engine and tore it apart and all was good just needed a vavle job and new rings, bearings and seals. OK now the engine is completely torn apart. While I was running it I also heard a noise in the tranny I did not like. So I took the covers off. I found the gears were worn to the point that they were flaking the shinny steel part of the gears. So I got a 400 orchard rearend out of the back lot. I was going to swap out axles and use it.After getting the oil drained I found someone had broken A hole in the bottom of the case and bolted a patch over it. So now I'm taking the 400 orchard traany apart and plan on swapping the parts needed. What A project. I must be NUTS.

Does the 336 engine have the same block mount? Have you repowered a 400 with the 336? I want to tractor pull with a 400 and am looking for ideas.

My 400 row crop was sunk in the mud up to the rear axle. I'm not sure but I think it's a demonstrator so it's worth the time. If this was an easy hobby everyone would do it, but it sure is a fun one.

Jim,
I can sympathize with you. The DCS I brought home was a complete piece of junk (according to everyone at the auction where it can from)and took a major effort to get it running again-only problem is it has 3 speeds in reverse and 1 forward! We just started tearing it apart again to replace the tranny. It must be some kind of disease. A wise man once said "you can never have too many Case tractors". Don
