The tach hasnt worked since I got the tractor. So I was testing and found that the spool that the cable plugs into, that is in the block, isnt turning at all. Has anyone dealt with this before? Can this be fixed by just dropping the pan? It is a diesel, if that makes a difference.Any help appreciated. thanks in advance. Rob

You will need a bolt that will screw into the place that the cable is threaded into. This bolt will need a hole drilled into it to fit over the drive stud and then you can pull it out. ait is a press fit. I recently did this on a 970 and used a bolt that the dealer had made for this. The gear is plastic and cost close to $100.

The "spool" you refer to is actually the drive gear for the tach. It is directly driven by the camshaft. You should be able to remove it from the top of the engine, you don't need to remove the oil pan. If it isn't turning my suspicion is that the teeth on it may be stripped. The Case-IH part number for the drive on a diesel 770 is A34266.

Hope this is of some help.
