I recently bent the pto shaft in my tractor and was wondering what would be the best way to straighten it?

Did you bend the short shaft or the long one inside the trans?
The best way to fix it is with one from another tractor. There are a lot of VAC's around.
The short shaft is only about another 4" longer than the outside. IF it's cockeyed, there might be something else cracked inside the housing.

This is a VC not a VAC it just has 1 solid long shaft for the pto. Looks sort of like a input shaft on a transmission. I just took it out by removing the 3 rear cover bolts and it fell right out I hope this is the correct way to remove it?
The way it looks it should just slide right back in, I hope?

Where are you located? I have a VC shaft real cheap, but I'm in Montana.

Hello, I have a 1954 Case VA. It is overhauled (hardened valves), new tires and a decent paint job with decals. What do you think I should ask for it? I changed to a VAC rear end I got from JR Gyaer in Lebanon IN. I was having shifting trouble. The old rear end will go with the tractor, I thought it could be repaired or used of for parts. If you know someone interested, I could e-mail a picture.

You will also have to remove the shifter lever on top of the housing. There is a shift collar that connects the 2 shafts. Hope you didn't let it fall into the rear housing... Gene

What happens if it falls into the rear housing?

Then you have to go fishing to get it out. Hopefully the shift lever has held it onto the front shaft... Gene

I pulled the shifter out and i didn't see any thing that looks like a shift collar. It's a cylinder that goes around the pto shaft if it is what i'm thinking of?

The shift collar is a round cylinderical item. It has a groove machined around it for the pin in the shifter handle to fit in and engage and disengage the PTO. If it has indeed fallen down, you should be able to snag it with a stiff wire hook... Gene

How long will it be because I drained all the fluid out and I can not see it in the housing?
Also what fluid does the rear end use? 80w-90?

Also can any one tell me how to seperate the ptoshaft from the bearing? The way it looks to me if I put the flange that mates to the rear housing face down in the press and push on the end of the pto I should come out but I'm not 100% sure about it
