Went back and took a 2nd look at the beater 990 my neighbors brothers is trying to sell me. Other than some missing gauges, a little bent sheet metal, etc it really isn't in horrible shape. The front axle slides back and forth a bit but it appears there are supposed to be bolts and stops on the "kingpin" that are missing. The big question is still that tube he's got running from the front top side of the left rear axle. There must have been a plug there because he's got a nipple coming off it and the tube goes to either the transmission filler plug or dipstick hole. My manual only shows the 12 speed layout and this is a 6 speed. I'm thinking it must be a bad seal in the hydraulics somewhere and he's draining off accumulated oil? Any other ideas? He wasn't around so I could hear run.

No loader on this one. I have to ask him I guess. I have a feeling the answer will be, "It was that way when I bought it."

A picture would be good at this stage I think!

IIRC the bleed for the main lift cylinder is on the LHS. As is the mounting plate for the earlier spec bypass hydraulic filter (deleted when the big suction filter in the "frying pan" was developed). Running a loader return line into the gearbox filler on a DB is a major league no-no.

It bypasses the lubrication system for a big part of the transmission. The correct return line point is on the top RHS of the axle. There are 2 plugs, one marked "oil supply" and the other marked "oil return".

Cheers, JV.

does the tractor have extra remote valving or a front pump??? thinking the hose could be a return line for a 2 way spool...not really a bad thing if thats what he's doing.

It's got 2 remotes on each side of the rear end. I found a pic online that says the place he plumned into in the vent for the hydraulics. I'm wondering if he needs to bled it alot, like in a bad pump, or lost the right part and did this.
