I have a david brown 995 and have no idea what year it is, tractor # 9956981687 can anyone help me with this?

In North America all 995/996 tractors were decaled 995. The 995 had a 2-stage clutch, the 996 had an independent lever for the PTO clutch.

The serial number says it's a late '72 996, rather than a 995 (referenced from Ingemar Karlssons excellent website: http://web.telia.com/~u05100714/index.htm). I can't say as I can recall the exact difference between a 995 and a 996, but I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be glad to inform you (and me lol)...

A 995 has a 2-stage foot clutch. A 996 has a separate clutch lever for the PTO. In addition to the clutch, either one would have another lever that shifted the PTO into and out of gear.
