Just kind of wondering how many ohters have noticed that the 730 and 930 head gasket leaks are getting real common. We have 2 930 and a 730 comfort king diesels. I replaced blown head gaskets so far in one 930. It had 2 compression leaks out under the manifolds. The other 930 has a water to oil issue now with a ton of oil leaking off under the heads. The 730 just has a lot of oil off under the heads too. I am glad this is not a hard job to do just needs done. I wish I could get the composite gaskets for them and not the bi-metal ones. I have not seen that much leaks from the 1030's.

Ok here is a little more on these tractors. None of them I worked on before we bought them. The 930 with the 2 compression leaking heads was rebuilt by a old farmer 3 yrs before I got it. Since then I have had to drop the pan and retorque The main and rod caps. Had 2 of them just about fall into the pan. Then the head gaskets really got me. Ever see grey latex paint used as a gasket sealer? They had no water jacket O rings installed. Front head leaked after rebuild , so in goes alot of block sealer. It worked atleast. Head bolt torque, whats that ! I broke all the head bolts loose useing a combination wrench with 1 hand. I know I am not that strong. The vavle clearance was around any where from 45 to 65 thou. Needless to say it runs alot better now. The other 2 tractors are leaking oil from under the heads under oil pressure not combustion pressure. The 930 is starting to steam off water out the breather now. So, next week new gaskets in it. The 730 I feel well be going down soon so just going to change them now and clean up the oily mess. I do have a 400 standard diesel here too that pumps alot of oil into the rad adn does not get water in the oil. Yeap I beat its a gasket too. So I will do a compression and leak down check on it first. As I work on these I check the sleeve protrusion and inspect the sleeve very close. We have had issues with 1030 and 830 with bad counter bores and breaking sleeves. I have used both the COpper sealant and also Shellac also by permatex. Just a personal prefernce as to which one is used. I do have a 2 yr degree in AG Tech. These problems are nothing new to me, just asking to see if anyones else had the same thoughts on them. Now as to gaskets go to the CaseIh site and look up the part numbers there. The call a old line case dealer adn ask them for the part. It does make a difference as to who you check with. One plac ewill take the time to look it up the other just says no long in stock. If all else fails call TTP in princeton IN. They will set you up.

Have you looked really good at the sleeve flanges? I don't have head gasket problems unless there are other issues. Cracked sleeves, cracked or pitted heads or cracked block. I would dig a bit deeper. My 2 cents.

Bob-

I suggest using Permatex Copper Seal-a-Gasket spray on the head gaskets. I have a 400 diesel that had this problem, used this stuff and also retorqued heads after running the engine for about 1/2 hour. This should fix you up.
