Hi guys, I am looking for some help on how to polarize a DC generator. I had the generator rebuilt recently and if I am thinking right I need to polarize it for it to begin charging. I put it back on the tractor and have run the DC a little but it is not charging at all.
Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if there is something else that I need to do to get this thing charging. Thanks.

With the tractor running, check to make sure you are getting power from the battery to the generator. Take the field wire off the regulator and run it to a ground (engine block). If the generator charges, the problem is probably with the regulator. Most new regulators come with polarizing instructions, but I forget how to do it. You should be able to find instructions by doing a search on the Internet.

The rebuilt generators I have worked with began generating as soon as they were turning. Here are a couple steps you might try, if you haven't already.

Have you checked all your wiring to make sure everything is hooked up correctly?

Do you have a new voltage regulator to go with the rebuilt generator? Sometimes these go bad.

Have you checked the generator for output with a multi-meter? The ammeter gauge may not be reading correctly.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I have checked with a voltmeter and it is not charging. Everything seems to be hooked up correctly. I hooked it up just like I took it apart. I did not replace the regulator. That will be my next step. Thanks again.
