Seems that all D Browns will soon be in the scrap pile. Parts are near extinct. Spent(off and on) 2 hours on the phone today trying to locate a crankshaft for a 990 AD4/47A..Prefer new but looks like I must settle for a reground one if I plan for it to ever run again. Reground DB cranks are weak and have a tendency to break like my last one did.

Hi Tom,

I checked the Bareco Catalog and they do have crankshafts for the 100mm bore not the 92mm bore that your 990 might have. Your engine type would inficate a pre 1968 model 990 Implematic.

Sorry

Greg

You should not have trouble in a 990 PROVIDED the crank grinder maintains the correct fillit radius when grinding, a lot of them will skimp this as they have to reshape the grinding wheel to do it and it saves them a lot of time and cost. If memory serves me correctly the max grind recommended is 0.010" for Diesels but you can grind further and use the crank in a petrol or kerosene engine. I have been caught out like this before with a less than good machine shop, and I have had cranks ground down to 0.030" U/S with no reliability problems when done correctly. Make shure the fillit radius is maintained by your machine shop.

Thanks. The crank that broke had been turned .040 and had run several years. Not a tremendous amount of running but some of it was ridiculous abuse. After Katrina he pulled huge, whole trees, walking on the rear wheels all the time, dogging it every minute. With sensible, normal use I would have no concern, especially one turned .010.
Thanks again
