Are these good little tractors? I found one pretty resonable and about 2 hours away. What should I look for? Any problems? The guy said that it runs great. I will be using it to mow and do chores on my small farm. It has a eagle hitch is that a 3 point? Sorry to ask so many?'s but never been around a case. Also would it fit on a 16' flat bed trailer and could I pull it with my F150 with a 5.4 in it? Thanks for the help

You will be around 4500 to 5,000 pounds gross for trailer/tractor. A 1/2 ton will handle it so long as you stay out of the high country and keep your speed reasonable.

Brake seal # = Chicago Rawhide (CR) 22446
PTO gasket = Parts book shows VT-3528 (Case-I dealer should be able to check it out and see if still available) If not, gasket material, small hammer, and make one. If that doesn't work for you, get a tube of blue gasket goop.

It is only around 20 horsepower. The steering wheel may require more effort to turn than some other tractors. Make sure the PTO works. It's a tough little tractor. My dad bought one (1948 model) that was 20 years old when he bought it, we worked it hard for years and it's still in running condition. We've had to put 2 clutches in it, but that's about it.

These things a one tough little tractor, and when you have got one up in shape it will run trouble free for many years. I got one in the late 70s and worked it over, and here I am in 2007 still using it and I've never done anything except change oil and antifreeze. In fact I'm ashamed to say I've never done anything except neglect it, and it still serves me faithfully. By the way I have 10 acres that I mow with a belly mower, a large garden, and all the driveways for five houses, so it doesn't just sit and collect dust. If in doubt, go for it!!!!

Personally I think it depends a lot on what you want it for. Its an old tractor and prone to break downs with long waits for hard to find parts where a newer tractor would be easier to get parts for at the local dealer but of course there is the cost difference between them. Yes it is a good small tractor but like I said its old. If you want it to just work your farm then you are looking for more trouble than it would be worth if you want it fix up and take to shows and do small jobs around the they then go for it.

Prone to breakdowns - no.

Hard to find parts - no.

Long waits for parts - no.

Looking for trouble as a work tractor - no.

The only part you got right is that a VAC is good and old.

Agree on the "good" part. Lotsa parts still around. Very easy starting with just a little attention. Tough little buggers.

Expect to pay slightly more, if it has been "initiated".... with bee's nest under hood & mice nest in tool box. (but don't pass it up if it hasn't been initiated).

One of the most popular older case tractors made and still used. Check block behind carb. specifically for cracks in block (as well as rest of castings). Make sure gears work well without any clanking noises in all gears. Put some load on lift arms to raise and be sure it will raise weight on arms. Leaks are usually bad seals in brakes or PTO that can be easily replaced. Parts are still easy to come by for the VAC series. Your truck and trailer should be able to haul a VAC pretty easily, as long as trailer is at least around 80" I believe or so wide. Tread width can be adjusted to fit most of the time. Some modern implements may require that you turn the pins towards the inside of implement to be used with eagle hitch (Case version of three point, no draft control). Any other questions or concerns just post them on the board.
