Phil, I just read a post by you (from the past). You mentioned that you 'use the backhoe as your workbench", WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!! thank you for sharing your experience. This will save me lots and lots of time and effort when I change the seals on my boom cyl!!!!

PS. could I remove the ram by power instead of a come-along?

At that point the piston & ram are loose, the large Cylinder Nut is off. You will lose some fluid when it comes out, but under hydraulic power you would dump >5 gal.

I use a come-a-long because I am working alone
and need to control/hold the RAM from damage when it comes out of the Cylinder.
